
India has no 'law' or 'regulatory body' for medical devices. The bulk of devices, from CT scans to hearing aids, are traded without any monitoring. Price capping can be done only for 'drugs' notified essential. So, to control price, a device has to be tagged not only as a drug, but an 'essential drug'. Only 23 devices are currently tagged as drugs.
