Return of cement industries after PM’s package
Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced a construction package in an effort to restart industrialization and development to boost the country’s industrial growth rate. After which the cement sector in Pakistan has made a profit of Rs 5.3 billion in the first quarter of the current financial year after incurring huge losses for four consecutive quarters.
Cement sales in Pakistan rose 15 percent to a new record 5.7 million metric tons during October. Experts say construction work on the dams has boosted sales. According to the report, cement sales in Pakistan increased by 15% in October 2020, cement factories started producing at 100% capacity.
According to the report, cement sales reached a record high of 5.7 million metric tons in October 2020. Local cement sales in October rose 15 percent to 4.8 million metric tons. Cement sales have increased due to the construction of dams and due to the Prime Minister’s housing sector package, cement sales will increase further. In the first four months of the current financial year, cement sales increased by 20% to 19.3 million tons.
Cement exports during September 2019 were 3.475 million tons, locally cement exports stood at 4.089 million tons in September 2020. In this regard, cement exports increased by 17.65% while cement exports exceeded 0.797 million tons during the period under review. 1.124 million tons or 40.95% more exports have been recorded.
Domestic cement exports to the northern region increased by 16.30% to 3.523 million tons in September 2020 from 3.029 million tons in September 2019. In September 2019, the northern region’s cement exports were 0.263 million tons, which increased by 9.27 percent during September 2020 to 0.287 million tons.
Apart from the positive growth rate in the southern region, domestic cement exports also increased by 26.84 percent to 565,236 tons as against 445,629 tons in September 2019. It had reached 837,033 tons with an increase of 56.53 percent as compared to 534,751 tons last year.
During the first quarter of this year (July-September), total cement exports increased by 21.88% over the same period last year, compared to 11.136 million tons last year and a record 13.573 million tons this year. Domestic exports increased from 9.120 million tons to 10.837 million tons, an increase of 18.84 percent.
