Massive scams in school construction and repair contracts revealed

Tenders were invited by the Education Works Department for the construction and repair of government schools and colleges in Central, Eastern Malir, South, Korangi and Western Districts in 6 districts of Karachi city at a cost of over Rs. 1 billion. The monkeys are being distributed through the alleged huge commission collection of contracts.

The private news agency claims that the market for buying and selling large-scale contracts in the name of provincial education minister Saeed Ghani is hot and billions of rupees worth of contracts are being distributed. Officials of the Education Works Department are busy awarding contracts to their favorite contractors using the open name of the provincial education minister.

The news agency also claims that all the district execs have held alleged exhibition tenders and are now arranging deals with the preferred contractors for the said works.

Out of the officers of the said 6 districts, only Exxon Javed Chandragar of Education Works Central District has released the Bud Evaluation Report on the website of Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority which has also revealed serious corruption.

Exxon Javed Chandrigar of Education Works Central District has not only violated the rules but also violated the rules of Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority by awarding a contract worth more than Rs 32.2 million to an unregistered firm from Pakistan Engineering Council.

On the other hand, the contract for the construction of a school in North Karachi has been awarded to a firm which has not been renewed in the Pakistan Engineering Council for many years. Contractors say that the Education Works Department officials have badly damaged the reputation of Saeed Ghani by setting up a Friday market for buying and selling contracts, which should be stopped immediately.
