Supporters of PTI remind their parliamentarians of their role.
1. First and foremost we should all be thankful that we got elected and belong to a very respectable elite, who carry a huge responsibility on their shoulders.
2. We fulfilled a dream which we all had to see our leader as the PM.
3. We should all realize that everyone who got elected cannot become a part of the cabinet, parliamentary secretaries, Chairpersons of standing committees, etc. Many would feel disappointed when they are ignored.
4. The decision who can serve the party and the government best finally should rest with the leader. We all have trusted his judgment through thick and thin for the last 23 years.
5. We all know deep in our hearts that the votes we got were not out of our efforts only. It was the party vote and the person who has contributed the greatest in building this vote bank is our leader, who worked harder than any one of us.
You as elected parliamentarians of PTI should ask yourself is our behavior today as per the expectation of the party leadership and workers.
Can we today desire things and action which we as a party have criticized in the past. Like the following
a) Desiring police security because we are a parliamentarian when we are criticizing the other parties of frivolous expenditure to look grand , important and powerful.
b) Desiring to have bigger vehicles and protocols because they are now elected. I believe we as elected members should maintain the same lifestyle which we had before we are elected.
c) The desire to put plates of MNA or MPA on vehicles was called it not out as undesirable act by us when we were not in the assemblies, than why do we want to adopt this act now that we are elected.
d) Why have forgotten the seniority of the people within the party and an MNA may believe he is superior in rank to an MPA or a senior party official this is neither correct nor true nor a correct reflection of the position in hierarchy within the party. Which in my opinion is based on two facts the seniority in the party and the contribution of time and effort he has made for the party.
This party has a history of 23 years now and many senior and hardworking people lost or did not contest due to their circumstances. We must continue to respect them for what they contributed, because it is their contribution that we are where we are.
e) All parliamentarians should be very transparent in their dealings. Their lifestyle should be fully supported within their declared income. Simplicity in life is a preferred mode. Their life style should not become ostentatious after being elected.
f) All of them should be filing their true tax returns or assets irrespective of the fact that tax is due or not and that also in a timely manner.
g) Our Parliamentarians behavior with the government officials should be as per the desired standards. (Being rude, snobbish, is not acceptable, humility, tolerance and politeness should be our trait and hallmark)
h) As Parliamentarians and as well as party officials we should never be seen misusing our positions. We should take immediate action against the black sheep who we hear or see that they are using their position for any sort of gratification financial or otherwise.
i) As parliamentarians we should be fulfilling our duties, we should attend all assembly sessions , we must read and prepare ourselves for performing our duties, attend standing committees, keep notes and try to move things expeditiously, attendance in party meetings is equally important, etc.
j) Yet another important matter is that there should be no complaints that the elected people are not seen in the constituency or available to the people who voted for them.
k) Historically very few parliamentarians have made any meaningful contribution through legislation we should strive to change this legacy.
l) Parliamentarians do not take critique well we must differentiate between critique and criticism. We should practice critiquing.
m) Those who become should not believe that they are not accountable to the party or the parliamentarians. They should always allocate some time for meeting these people in their routine because these are the people who defend you in public because you do not have the time to do that yourself due to the added responsibility.
1. WHAT SHOULD PARLIAMENTARIANS BE DOING
a. Become champions of some one issue, one of the SDG
b. Review past legislation if they cannot write new one and update them.
c. Becoming well versed with the budget, its process, its monitoring.
d. Ensure through involvement that corruption is eliminated
e. Address the problems which the people are facing through legislation.
f. Hold the ministers accountable for their performance.
2. WHAT PARLIAMENTARIANS SHOULD NOT DO
a. The people have voted for you and now you have to deliver on your promises.
b. You cannot blackmail the party by your threat of resigning, joining another party.
c. Do not behave in a manner which is against party norms.
d. Do not dash the hopes of the electorate who voted for the party primarily than you.
e. Do not disappoint the workers who worked tirelessly for you who will not benefit in any manner.
3. PRAYER
MAY ALLAH GIVE US ALL WISDOM AND THE STRENGTH TO COME TO THE EXPECTATION OF THE PEOPLE OF PAKISTAN. INSHALLAH WE WILL SERVE OUR COUNTRY IN A MANNER THAT PEOPLE REMEMBER US FOR OUR PERFORMANCE AND DELIVERY FOR DECADES.
MAY ALLAH GUIDE US.
AMEEN.
