Pakistan Comes Out Of Corona Impact, Setting Economic Records

Announcement of  manufacturing plants

According to the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), three new companies will set up smartphone manufacturing plants in the country. One of them, a Chinese company, has decided to set up a mobile phone plant in Lahore and Karachi. There will be job opportunities and there are areas that promote mobile technology locally.

PTT added that after the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRRBS) in 2019, there is a significant increase in the legal import of mobile devices and there is a localization of mobile devices in Pakistan. More than 33 preparation plants are ready.

This system led to the development of more than 25 million mobile devices, including 4G smartphones. Following the success of DIRBS, there has been a significant development in the field of mobile phone manufacturing at the local level, especially in the manufacture of smartphones, and in 2019 alone, 119,639 smartphones have been manufactured locally.

An additional 2.1 million people were saved in 2020 when 1.2 million smartphones were ready in Pakistan by the end of the second month of 2021. The National Bureau of Statistics says Pakistan spends billions of dollars every year importing expensive smartphones, although the situation is changing.

From July 2020 to January 2021, mobile phone imports cost  1.135 billion in foreign exchange. This rate was more than 49.32% as compared to the financial year, which seems to be Pakistan’s biggest investment in mobile phone imports.
